Résumé

This chapter considers sailing as a particular example of how the maritime can be used as a context for the delivery of a psychological intervention. We focus on sailing as a context for promoting self-development and as a context for therapeutic or rehabilitative interventions. We review research on educational sail training and sailing for marginalized groups, people with disabilities or with mental health problems. These sorts of interventions have become more common during the last decade, with increasing interest in outward bound education and in taking therapy outside. A series of research questions is posed to evaluate and develop the potential of sailing as an intervention in these domains, and within the domain of enhancing corporate performance.
